Overview of BEE Registration (Star Ratings)
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is an agency established under the MINISTRY OF POWER, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA.
The objective of BEE India is energy and cost saving. The Government has made it compulsory for some notified items to have star ratings and labels which specify the energy saving performance of the product and help the customers in making the perfect selection before purchasing such a product. On 1st March 2002, The Government of India accomplished the innovative initiative to conserve energy under the provision of the Energy Conservative Act, 2001 by establishing the BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY (BEE).
Why does a product require a BEE (Star Rating) Certificate?
BEE certification is provided by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India to the manufacturers of electrical and electronic products. It does so in the form of rating the energy efficiency of appliances and then giving them the BEE energy rating in the Bureau of Energy Efficiency certification.
Performance Indication
A BEE (Star rating) certificate is required to show the product’s level of performance and electricity usage.
Energy Savings
It indicates product efficiency in terms of electricity consumption. Higher star rating means higher energy saving.
Consumer Awareness
BEE raises awareness and knowledge of energy efficiency, conservation and shares information about it.
Industry Reputation
It secures the manufacturer’s or industry’s reputation for adhering to the applicable energy requirements.
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) purpose is to “institutionalize” energy efficiency services, enable delivery methods across the country, and lead energy efficiency in all industries in India. Its primary objective is to reduce energy intensity in the economy.
