Woven Quality Control Order (Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products QCO, 2023) the Ministry of Commerce and Industry issued the Aluminium and Aluminium Alloy Products (Quality Control) Order, 2023 on 25 September 2023 in public interest, after consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
Under this order, woven products must comply with the applicable Indian Standard IS 16011:2012 and obtain mandatory ISI Mark certification under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS Conformity Assessment Regulations, 2018. Manufacturers are required to secure a BIS license and ensure their products bear the ISI mark before being sold in the Indian market.
Key Highlights of Woven QCO
- The order becomes effective for large-scale manufacturers after 6 months from the date of notification.
- Products manufactured exclusively for export are exempt from this QCO.
- BIS is responsible for certification and enforcement, ensuring that all applicable products carry the ISI Standard Mark.
- Non-compliance may attract penalties under the BIS Act, including fines up to ₹5 lakh, imprisonment up to 1 year, or up to 5 times the annual turnover.
