Air Conditioner and its Related Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls Quality Control Order (The Air Conditioner and its related Parts, Hermetic Compressor and Temperature Sensing Controls (Quality Control) Order, 2019)
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently published a Quality Control Order on 05/12/2019 in the public interest after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS Act, 2016). Air Conditioner and its Related Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls shall conform to the relevant Indian Standard (IS / IEC 60730 (Part-2) Section-9:2011 as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018 and shall bear the mandatory ISI Mark under a BIS License granted from the Bureau of Indian Standards (ISI Mark Certification).
Air Conditioner and its Related Parts, Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls QCO key points:
1. For Large Scale units, it shall come into force with effect from 6 months from the date of notification.
2. This QCO shall not apply to such goods or article meant for export.
3. BIS shall certify and enforce the concerned manufacturers to use a Standard Mark as the ISI Mark logo on all the products covered under the same QCO.
4. According to BIS Guideline, any person who contravenes the provisions of this QCO shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (up to Rs. 5 Lakh, imprisonment for up to 1 year term or 5 times annual turnover).
New BIS QCO Amendment for Air Conditioners & Related Parts: What You Need to Know
The amendment order for Air Conditioners & Related Parts, including Hermetic Compressors and Temperature Sensing Controls, was issued on 11th February 2025. Following the second provision, manufacturers of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and related parts must obtain the BIS license and manufacture these products with compressors of more than 7000 W (2TR) capacity for one year from the date of commencement of the Air Conditioner and its related parts.
