As per the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016), the Tin Ingot (Quality Control) Order, 2025 has been published by the Ministry of Mines, Government of India. The Quality Control Order (QCO) comes into effect on April 17, 2025, and will continue to be in operation for six months until October 17, 2025, the date of publication.

 

Overview for BIS QCO for the Tin Ignot 

This is to keep in mind that every tin ingot manufactured, marketed, or exported inside the Indian domestic market must comply with Indian Standard IS 26—Tin Ingot—Specification and have the BIS Standard Mark, according to the QCO.

Requirements for Compliance

To adhere to the QCO for Tin Ingot, one must keep these points in mind:

  • Tin ingots must adhere to IS 26, an Indian standard.
  • Every product must be certified following Scheme I of Schedule II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, and bear the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification mark.
  • In India, BIS certification is required for sales and distribution.

Exemption

  • Exports: Products made specifically for export are exempt from the order.
  • Updated Standards: The most recent iteration of Indian Standards, as announced periodically by BIS, will take effect on the date of notice.

Application

The current BIS QCO for Tin Ingot shall be applied to:

  • Indian market manufacturers, importers, and sellers.
  • It shall be used for all units, including importers of tin ingots for consumption within India.

Implementation Schedule

The Tin Ingot (Quality Control) Order, 2025, shall come into force from October 17, 2025. To maintain business continuity, the stakeholders shall obtain BIS certification and comply with the order before this date.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Defaults in the Tin Ingot QCO rules will be penalised according to the terms of the BIS Act, 2016.
