The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has modified the compliance deadline for the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Order, 2024, which was scheduled to take effect one year from the date of publication (August 2025); however, compliance has been pushed back to September 1, 2026.
It has been described in the 2025 amendment as allowing more time for affected businesses to adapt to the regulations. The order applies to a variety of machines and electrical equipment, including cranes, compressors, transformers, and pumps.
The Order may be referred to as the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Safety (Omnibus Technical Regulation) Amendment Order, 2025. It will be in force from the date of such publication in the Official Gazette. In the Machinery and Electrical Equipment Act, it is also stated that one year from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, from the 1st September, 2026, the words, figures, and letters will be substituted.
Provided the assemblies, sub-assemblies, and components from the first schedule attached to this Order shall be applied from that date, as agreed to by the Central Government in the Official Gazette.
