Order Issue Date: 05 May, 2025
Implementation Date: 01 Oct, 2025
This is a significant move to ensure the better quality of the product, guaranteeing public safety and conforming to the manufacturing standards, through the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, DPIIT. Laid down on the 5th May, 2025, this latest order superseded the earlier one of the year 2024, which will come into force from 1st October 2025 for all ordinary manufacturers. This requires granting BIS certification to several aluminium and aluminium alloy products marketed in India.
With effect from the date laid down, some aluminium and aluminium alloy products must conform to the relevant Indian Standards (IS) and carry the Standard Mark (ISI mark). The Scheme I of Schedule II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018, should be followed while seeking certification.
This order shall not apply to products meant exclusively for export.
According to the MSME Development Act of 2006, micro and small enterprises were granted extended due dates for compliance:
Penalties may be imposed under the provisions of the BIS Act of 2016 may be imposed upon any person found guilty of a violation.
This Government Order is issued under Section 16, read with Section 17 and Sub-section (3) of Section 25 of the BIS Act, 2016. After discussions with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the Government came to consider it necessary to have the quality standards enforced for aluminium products in public interest.
The enforcement agency for certification and implementation under this order will be the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Presently, the Order covers 17 aluminium and aluminium alloy products used in different fields of activity such as general engineering, electrical appliances, packaging, irrigation, aerospace, and so on.
