ISI Certification (BIS) for SUPER SULPHATED CEMENT IS 6909:1990

Super-sulfated cement (SSC) is a newly developed unburnt cementitious material. It is an environmental-friendly cementitious material due to its energy-saving, carbon emission reducing, and waste-utilization.

It mainly composes of phosphogysum (PG) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GFS), with a small amount of cement.

Super sulphated cement is used in the following areas –

· For foundations lying in chemically aggressive soils due to its high sulphate resistance

· For marine works– Super sulphated cement can resist the attack of seawater better than portland blast furnace slag cement.Hence, it can be used for concreting of marine structures.

· Fabrication of RC pipes– Reinforced concrete pipes supposed to be buried in sulphate bearing soils can be casted of super sulphated cement.

Introduction to Indian Standard IS 6909 Super sulphated cement

· IS 6909 cover Super sulphated cement. This standard specifies the manufacturing, chemical and physical requirements and testing of Super sulphated cement.

· IS 6909 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the Super sulphated cement as follows

(ii) Setting time

(iii) Soundness

(iv) Chemical requirement

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Super sulphated cement(IS 6909) :

· Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Cement (Quality control) order.

· As per the Cement (Quality control) order, all the manufacturers of Super sulphated cementare obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
