Introduction to Indian Standard IS 6392 covers Steel Pipe Flanges. This standard specifies the manufacturing, chemical, and physical requirements, as well as the testing, of Steel Pipe Flanges.
a. Other than high temperature use, the materials of forgings, castings and rolled plates shall be those given in Table 1 of IS 6392:2020 except that alternative materials may be used provided that their mechanical properties (tensile strength, yield stress and percent elongation) shall not be less than the value as specified in IS 2002 Gr-1.
b. Both bolts and nuts shall be in accordance with IS 1364. For alloy steel studs or bolts, nuts of a similar steel, but of a different grade shall be used. If carbon steel is used, it shall have a tensile strength of 415 N/mm2 , Min.
c. For temperatures up to 450°C, carbon steel bolts, studs and nuts may be used. For temperatures higher than 450°C bolts and studs shall be of alloy steel and nuts shall be of carbon or alloy steel of different grade. For bolts less than 12 mm size alloy steel nuts shall be used.

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Steel Pipe Flanges (IS 6392) :
Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, has issued the Quality control order. As per the Quality control order, all the manufacturers of Steel Pipe Flanges are obligated to obtain the ISI Mark Certification.
