STEEL PIPE FLANGES IS 6392
IS 6392:2020 is the Bureau of Indian Standards specification for Steel Pipe Flanges governing their manufacturing process, material composition, mechanical properties, and testing requirements. The standard applies to flanges made from forgings, castings, and rolled plates, covering nine class designations from 0.1 to 16.0 across all nominal bore sizes. ISI Mark certification under IS 6392 is now mandatory for all manufacturers supplying Steel Pipe Flanges in the Indian market, with non-compliance resulting in product seizure and penalties under the BIS Act, 1986.

IS 6392 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the Steel Pipe Flanges as follows

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Steel Pipe Flanges (IS 6392) :
Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards, has issued the Quality control order. As per the Quality control order, all the manufacturers of Steel Pipe Flanges are obligated to obtain the ISI Mark Certification.

- In the certification process, product testing is the most important stage as it determines whether the quality of the product meets Indian standards.
- For the same purpose, investments in testing facilities are required to install test equipment for internal factory test laboratories.
