RCBO is a Residual Current Operated Circuit-Breaker with Integral Overcurrent Protection. A mechanical switching device designed to make, carry and break currents under normal service conditions and to cause the opening of the contacts when the residual current attains a given value under specified conditions. 

In addition, it is designed to give protection against overloads and/or short-circuits and can be used independently of any other overcurrent protective device within its rated short-circuit capacity.

1. Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Residual current operated circuit breakers for household and similar uses (RCBOs) to use ISI mark as per IS 12640 (PART 2):

• Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Electrical Wires, Cables, Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories (Quality control) order.
• As per this Quality Control order, allthe manufacturers of  Residual current operated circuit breakers for household and similar uses (RCBOs) to use ISI mark as per IS 12640 (PART 2) are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
