Introduction to Indian Standard IS 277; Galvanized steel Strips & sheets ( plain and corrugated)

• IS 277 cover Galvanized steel sheets ( plain and corrugated).

This standard covers the requirements of plain galvanized steel sheets and strips (coils) and corrugated galvanized sheets.

1. Galvanized steel sheets covered by this standard are intended to be used for purposes such as paneling, roofing, applications requiring lock forming, etc.
2. Requirements of galvannealed and electrogalvanized steels are not covered in this standard.
3. The requirements of zinc and zinc alloy coated steel sheets for automotive and engineering applications are being covered in a separate standard which is under development.

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Galvanized steel Strip &  sheets ( plain and corrugated). (IS 277) :

• Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Steel after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Steel and Steel Products(Quality Control) Order, 2020.
• As per this Quality control order, allthe manufacturers of Galvanized steel sheets ( plain and corrugated) are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.

• In the certification process, product testing is the most important stage as it determines whether the quality of the product meets Indian standards.
• For the same purpose, investments in testing facilities are required to install test equipment for internal factory test laboratories.
• Apart from charges mentioned above in the table, we may ask you to pay/reimbursement for a Pre-Visit at your Factory Premises to ensure the conformity of your product as per the relevant Indian Standard & BIS guidelines for its BIS certification.
