• IS 13779 cover AC Static watt-hour meters, class 1 & 2. It applies only to static watt-hour meters consisting of measuring element(s) and register(s) enclosed together in the meter case. It also applies to operation indicator(s) and test output(s). It also applies to multi-rate tariff meters and meters which measure energy in both directions and intended for indoor and outdoor application. For meters with smart functions, refer IS 16444 (Part 1).

• IS 13779 specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the AC Static watt-hour meters, class 1 & 2 as follows

• Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Electrical Wires, Cables, Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories (Quality control) order.
• As per this order, allthe manufacturers of AC Static watt-hour meters, class 1 & 2 are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
