Category: BIS Registration (CRS)
The Power Adaptors for IT Equipment under the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) aim to protect consumers against electrical hazards and the risk of overheating. Manufacturers and importers must test, certify, and register their products with BIS before being allowed to market them in India. The power adapters provide electrical energy to keep the IT equipment functioning correctly, which is an integral part of most IT arguments. Various designs of power adapters exist (shape, size, voltage, and current level), allowing them to cater to the varying power requirements of all IT systems.
It has many different names, including the acronym AC Adapter or Power Supply. It is very important to obtain the BIS CRS Registration for Power Adaptors for consumers' safety and reliability.
A typical Power Adaptor is plugged into a standard electrical wall socket and, through conversion, provides the type of electrical voltage necessary to support the electronic device that is being recharged. The Power Adapter is generally enclosed in a unit that contains the plug (in some cases) and a power lead. The product will contain a conversion chip that converts the incoming AC power from the wall socket into the appropriate voltage, current, and/or frequency required by the recharging device.
In December 2015, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) mandated the registration of Power Adaptors for IT Equipment as per IS 13252 (Part 1) under the Compulsory Registration Scheme from BIS. Any equipment registered with the BIS can be easily imported/exported, manufactured, and sold without issues.
Below, we can go through the important requirements for obtaining the BIS CRS Registration for IS IS 13252(Part 1):
1. Manufacturers: The CRS Registration is issued only to manufacturers, not to importers or sellers. Importers serve as Authorised Indian Representatives (AIR) for foreign manufacturers, allowing them to apply for a BIS License. Ultimately, the final certification is granted solely to the manufacturers.
2. Manufacturing Address: The correct manufacturing address must be mentioned in the documents. If manufacturers have only one factory location for a product, a separate BIS License is required for each location.
3. Product: Every product requires its own license. However, if multiple models fall under the same product category, a single permit or registration number will cover all models within that category. A Single BIS license or registration number will cover all models of the same product.
4. Brand/Trademark: Additionally, each brand or trademark must have its own BIS license.
The steps for registering with the BIS differ for Indian manufacturers and FMCS. Let’s go over the steps for registration under the BIS CRS system.
