The BIS CRS Registration is mandatory for the Point of Sale Terminals as per IS 13252 (Part 1), under the Compulsory Registration Scheme. POS Terminals are crucial hardware devices, mostly used in retail stores to process card payments. Ensuring the safety of products that contain electrical and electronic components is essential. POS Terminal must comply with the requirements given under the Indian Standard to obtain the BIS Registration. Manufacturers or importers should obtain the BIS mark before selling their product in India.
In July 2013, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) included several products under CRS, one of which was Point of Sale Terminals. Under Scheme II of Schedule II, these terminals must be BIS registered to ensure that they meet quality and safety standards.

BIS Registration in India for POS Terminals provides safety and reliability for consumers. POS terminals are essential hardware and software systems for processing transactions, managing inventory, and analysing sales data in real time.
Usually, a touchscreen for the user interface, and in many cases, a customer-facing display, which means devices used for credit/debit cards (EMV chip), mobile wallets, and contactless payments(NFC). The purveying of this order comes into force after six months from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.
