BIS Registration (CRS) for Laptop/notebook/tablets -IS 13252 PART-1

BIS Registration for Laptop/Notebook/Tablets

Portables are in high demand these days. They can be transported anywhere, and portability is a tremendous convenience. These computers come in many forms, like notebooks, PCs, or tablets. Few portable computers have many features and are produced by different brands. A notebook or tablet PC greatly decreases daily tasks and saves valuable time.  When it comes to BIS CRS Registration India, the registration process must meet certain requirements, including testing to check quality and conforming to what has been manufactured as per Indian Standards IS 13252 (Part 1).

A laptop is an electronic device used everywhere, and therefore, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) requires a Laptop to be registered under the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme. It is obligatory to register and manufacture a laptop under this scheme. If the laptop is not included in the registration scheme, a manufacturer will not be able to manufacture, sell, or export to India.

Overview of Laptops/Notebooks/Tablets Certification under CRS BIS

The BIS Registration of laptops/notebooks/Tablets is compulsory as they are important products in the industry. LAPTOP stands for Lightweight Analytical Platform with Total Optimisation Power. Its name came from Lap because it can be placed on the person’s lap while using it. A laptop is a personal computer that is small in size and easy to carry anywhere. If we compare the laptop with a desktop computer, there are a lot of differences between both, like in size, weight, consumes less energy consumption. A Laptop is the best choice for busy professionals who travel often.

As a Laptop is an electronic device that is used everywhere, keeping this in consideration, the BIS Bureau of Indian Standards has required a Laptop to be registered under the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme. It's compulsory to register the laptop under this scheme. Otherwise, you cannot manufacture, sell, or export to India.

Essential Criteria for BIS CRS Certification

Here are the 4 pillars on which the BIS Licence depends; without these, no applicant can apply for Indian BIS Certification. To get BIS Registration, the  applicant must fulfill the following requirements:

  • Manufacture: The first very important thing is that the Indian BIS Licence is granted to the manufacturer only, not to importers or sellers. Importers may act as the AIR of Foreign manufacturers and can apply to BIS. But the final licence is only granted to the Manufacturer.
  • Manufacturing Address: The Proper manufacturing address shall be mentioned in the documents. In case manufacturers have more than one factory location for one product, then a separate BIS Registration India is required for each location.
  • Product: Each product requires its Licence. But if the same product category covers multiple models, then one Licence/ registration no will cover all the models of the same product category. Or we can say, one product with different models requires a single BIS Licence.
  • Brand/ trademark: Each brand or trademark requires its own BIS licence.

Importance of Scheme II Registration for Laptop/Notebook/Tablet

Below, we have mentioned some of the importance of obtaining BIS registration in India:

  • A BIS-certified product must conform to a particular standard in its manufacture. Furthermore, BIS-certified products diminish environmental risk because BIS prohibits the use of certain chemicals and materials under its recommendation.

  • BIS ensures the highest quality of product inspection and quality. The final product under the BIS brand stands for quality, performance, and reliability; therefore, its authenticity can be trusted.
  • For import substitutes, however, BIS Certification shall represent the cornerstone for assuring that local products comply with strict quality standards.
  • For Laptops and notebooks, Scheme II registration guarantees the safety of lithium-ion batteries, which can overheat and explode if not manufactured perfectly.
