BIS certification for commercial electric cooking appliances under IS 302 Part 1: 2024/IEC 60335-1 is mandatory in India. Manufacturers and importers must obtain the ISI Mark (Scheme-I) by meeting specific electrical safety, shock protection, and fire hazard requirements before selling these items in the country. IS 302 Part 1: 2024/IEC 60335-1 sets the safety requirements for household and commercial electric cooking ranges, ovens, hobs, and hob elements under BIS Certification. This standard ensures these products meet essential safety standards for everyone using kitchens in India.
Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2026 – S.O. 1739(E), dated 6 April 2026, issued by DPIIT, Ministry of Commerce and Industry; supersedes the Safety of Household, Commercial and Similar Electrical Appliances (Quality Control) Order, 2025. The certification covers single-phase appliances up to 250V and other appliances up to 480V. It evaluates parameters such as insulation, heating resistance, and leakage current.
Under the Safety of Household and Commercial Appliances, appliances must be evaluated for compliance with IS 302 Part 1: 2024/IEC 60335-1 to ensure electrical safety, construction integrity and thermal endurance. The performance of these appliances also needs to be confirmed in accordance with the above standard.
Both Indian and foreign manufacturers must follow the certification process to obtain the ISI Mark on their products:
