India's fast-growing economy has impacted the electronics and IT sector and has given rise to demand for safe and high-quality products. As the market is consumer-centric, quality and safety checks of products are nowadays an essential criterion for consumers. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is a regulatory body that controls product quality and safety. The Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) under BIS is a basic scheme for many products, such as mobile phones, laptops and power adapters.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) put in place the BIS Registration in 2012. It mandated that certain notified electronic goods must be registered under this scheme before they are brought and sold in the Indian market. Domestic or foreign manufacturers are supposed to get a BIS Registration Certificate to bring their electronic or IT goods into the Indian market. However, many applicants think the process is daunting as it involves rigorous document work

BIS CRS Registration scheme requires certain products to be tested and certified according to Indian Standards. The purpose is to ensure that consumers in India get access to quality, safe, and authentic electronic products. Registration is only allowed to manufacturers, not to traders or importers, though foreign manufacturers need to appoint an Authorized Indian Representative (AIR) for them.

Manufacturers must ensure that the products are tested only in BIS-recognised labs. All necessary documents must be submitted through the official BIS website.

This blog will discuss the list of documents required for BIS CRS Certification.
