About the Audited Standard – IS 2553 (Part-1):

  • Toughened (Tempered) Safety Glass
  • Laminated Safety Glass

The products provide some injury impact resistance from impact, shattering, or penetration, and thus make a building and its occupants safer in some uses/applications in architecture.

Scope of the BIS Audit:

The audit was performed in compliance with the FMCS License and focused on validating product quality, production processes, laboratory facilities, and compliance with Indian Standards.

  • Key Points Assessed During the Audit:
  • Let’s go through the important points of the Audit:

Product Compliance:

The safety glass products complied with and fulfilled the requisite % impact resistance, fragmentation characteristics (for tempered glass), and adhesion/ penetration resistance (for laminated glass).

  • Dimensional Tolerance: The products complied with dimensional tolerances for thickness, dimensions, and edgework as outlined in IS 2553 Part-1.
  • Optical/Mechanical Properties: The glass passed all tests for visible distortion, light transmittance, and mechanical strength.
  • Heat Soak Test (for tempered glass): The audit verified the in-house or outsourced heat soak test facility to confirm compliance with norms regarding spontaneous breakage prevention.
  • Lamination Quality (for laminated glass): The audit assessed delamination, bubbles, and clarity of the interlayers against prescribed BIS standards.
  • Traceability & Labelling: All products had the correct markings, including the BIS Standard Mark, manufacturer details, and product type in compliance with BIS labelling norms.
  • Internal Laboratory & Quality Assurance: The facility had a well-equipped laboratory and had a formal internal quality control system in place to monitor production continuously.

Why BIS Certification for Safety Glass Matters in France:

Safety Glass is regulated by BIS in India under the Safety Glass (Quality Control) Order. All safety glass provided for use in building, transportation, and public infrastructure must conform to **IS 2553 (Part-1)..  For non-Indian manufacturers from foreign countries, such as France to obtain a BIS certificate will permit them the ability to legally supply and advertise products in India.

Conclusion:

The BIS certificate represents the French manufacturer's promise of quality and safety of their product, and represents their first steps into the Indian market. ERCS Pvt. Ltd. continue to be a trusted resource for overseas manufacturers to acquire the BIS FMCS status - from collecting documentation, providing tech support, performing factory audits, and issuing certification.
