TEC Notification 2026

The Department of Telecommunication, on April 10, 2026, under the Telecommunications Act, 2023, has issued a new order (Framework to Notify Standards, Conformity Assessment and Certification) Rules, 2025, through the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC). This Notification states that certain telecommunication equipment has been set in accordance with revised Standards issued by the Government through this Notification.

The new standards have been introduced to enhance the quality of telecommunications products in India and ensure compliance with regulatory and other requirements. The revised standards are expected to be a major driver of growth in the telecommunications industry.

Important Point Mentioned in the TEC Notification 2026

The revised telecommunications equipment certification standards will take effect upon their publication date in the Official Indian Govt. Gazette and will modify existing telecommunications equipment certificates throughout the entire equipment industry.

The following are important updates within TEC Notification 2026:

  • A 90-day grace period will begin upon the publication of this notification.
  • During the grace period, both the currently published standards and revised TEC standards will be equally valid.
  • Following the end of the 90-day period, only the revised standards shall remain as the active standard for all telecommunications equipment compliance and certification.
  • All manufacturers and importers shall review all products, testing protocols, and any technical documentation to verify compliance with the new TEC standards.

90-Day Transition Period Explained under TEC Notification

The following TEC Notification 2026 specifies a 90-day transition period to implement the updated versions of the SIM and IP Security Equipment compliance standards. Both sets of standards will be used by manufacturers, importers, and telecom companies to allow sufficient time for manufacturers to modify their products, manufacturing processes, technical documents, and certifications.

The purpose of this temporary period is to allow for a smooth transition to the revised telecom standards and ensure that manufacturing, importing, and product approvals for the Indian market are not disrupted. To help alleviate potential future compliance problems, businesses are encouraged to begin planning.

What happens after 90 days?

After 90 days, only the revised TEC compliance standards for each product will be allowed for certification and compliance.

Can I still use the old standards?

Yes, you may continue to use the previously established compliance standards for a limited time, only during the interim 90-day period specified in the notification.

Impact on Manufacturers and Importers

With the introduction of revised TEC standards, manufacturers and importers of SIM and IP Security Equipment in India will be required to comply with these new requirements.

  • Existing TEC certifications may need to be reviewed and aligned with the revised standards.
  • Testing procedures for products/testing will require updates due to changes in TEC technical requirements.
  • If importers are importing products from overseas suppliers, they should verify that they meet the current New TEC Certification Requirements.
  • Failure to comply with the revised standards after 90 days could impact manufacturing, imports, product approvals, and sales in India.

Conclusion

To improve product quality and compliance in telecommunications products, the TEC Notification 2026 includes new standards for SIMs and IP security equipment. As part of the transition, companies will have 90 days to prepare their operations to meet the new standards.

Companies should start planning for compliance, updating their product testing processes, and reviewing their certification requirements right away, as compliance with the revised TEC standards will be mandatory after the transition period ends.
