The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has officially announced the extension of the timeline for the mandatory BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), which is required for Television Sets falling under IS 18112:2022. According to the notification made on 26 July 2026, the compliance period has been extended from 26 July 2026 to 26 January 2027. The extension will provide additional time for Indian manufacturers, foreign manufacturers, importers, brand owners, and Authorised Indian Representatives (AIR) to conduct product testing, prepare documentation, and complete BIS CRS registration before the Order comes into force.

Although the deadline has been extended, the requirement of BIS registration remains unaltered. Television sets falling under the notification will have to get their BIS registration completed before they can be manufactured, imported, marketed and sold in India.

MeitY made the Compulsory Registration Order (CRO) to ensure that electronic and information technology products sold in India meet Indian Standards before being released to the market.The CRO scheme has been extended through the years to many categories of electronics, including mobile phones, power adapters, LED lighting products, laptops, monitors, television sets, and many more.

For the BIS CRS scheme, manufacturers have to:

• Conduct product tests in labs recognised by the BIS.
• Prove compliance with Indian Standards.
• Get a BIS Registration Number.
• Display the BIS Standard Mark and BIS Registration Number on their compliant products.
