BIS CERTIFICATION OF – ELECTRIC IRON IS 302 Part 2 Section 3

An electric iron is an appliance used for ironing the clothes and removing crease. The clothes iron is designed in such a way that can be kept it in small areas of wardrobe or carry it in your backpack while traveling.

Introduction to Indian Standard IS 302 (PART 2/SEC 3); Safety of household and similar electrical appliances – Electric iron

• IS 302 (PART 2/SEC 3) covers Electric iron. This standard deals with the safety of electric dry irons and steam irons, including those with separate water reservoir or boiler having a capacity not exceeding 5 litres, for household and similar purpose, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. This standard does not in general take into account:

1. a) Use of appliance by young children or infirm persons without supervision; and
2. b) Playing with the appliance by young children.
   • IS 302 (PART 2/SEC 3) specifies the quality parameters or characteristics of the Safety of household and similar electrical appliances – Electric iron as follows

Mandate for ISI Mark Certification of Safety of household and similar electrical appliances – Electric iron (IS 302 (PART 2/SEC 3)) :

• Under section 14 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 1986 (63 of 1986), the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade after consulting the Bureau of Indian Standards has issued the Electrical Wires, Cables, Appliances and Protection Devices and Accessories (Quality control) order.
• As per this order, allthe manufacturers of Safety of household and similar electrical appliances – Electric iron are obligated to obtain ISI Mark Certification.
