BIS Registration (CRS) – Scheme II

Introduction to BIS Registration

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is the agency responsible for establishing national standards in India. It is in charge of creating, maintaining, and enforcing quality standards for goods, services, and systems in many different industries. In India, obtaining BIS Registration is obligatory for a diverse array of items, including those related to information technology and electronics, culinary products, building materials, automobiles, and many more.  The goal of the BIS Registration system is to make sure that products sold in India meet the quality and safety standards that are needed. It requires a lot of testing and certification, and the companies that make or import the products must follow all the rules and standards for CRS Registration. In this way, BIS Registration is very important for protecting the rights of consumers and helping Indian industries grow.

Before they may be brought into the Indian market, certain goods have to first be approved for sale by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) as part of the Compulsory Registration System (CRS). Before selling their electronic and information technology goods on the Indian market, producers are required to get such devices registered by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the BIS Registration program, also known as the "Compulsory registration scheme." Under the BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology of the Indian government has notified 63 electronic and information technology items, while the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and Rural Empowerment have notified 8 and 5 products, respectively.

The procedure for BIS Registration in accordance with the Compulsory Registration Scheme

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) collaborated in 2012 to launch the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS), which is an acronym for "Compulsory Registration."

Please note, step-by-step, the following BIS Registration process steps:

  1. Registration on the BIS portal to get login credentials
  2. Testing of products (sample) in the BIS-recognized lab
  3. Submission of application
  4. Scrutiny of Application & Test report by BIS
  5. Submit Affidavit to BIS
  6. Grant of License

Why do we get BIS Registration?

Do you meet the requirements for BIS Registration with your product?

You will need a BIS license if you are a maker of electronic devices covered by the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) Scheme and wish to affix the Standard Mark to your products. Based on your self-declaration that the product complies with the application you are submitting, BIS Registration. Manufacturers are required to register their electronic and information technology goods with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under the BIS Registration plan (Compulsory registration scheme) before putting them on the Indian market. Under the Compulsory Registration Scheme of BIS, the Ministry of Electronics & IT (Meity), Government of India, has notified 63, MHIPE and MNRE have notified 8 and 5 goods, respectively, electronic & IT products.

This self-declaration of conformity from you indicates that your manufacturing infrastructure can produce quality products as per Indian Standards with necessary testing facilities which can test the products in the prescribed period at your factory premises only.

Required Documents for BIS Registration

  • Test report Conformity by the independent testing laboratory of product samples (PCB Layout, User Manual, Critical Component List).
  • A legal address for the manufacturing facility and information about the nature of the business.
  • A copy of the trademark registration (brand name)
  • In the case of international producers, KYC Documents of Authorized Indian Representative (AIR)

BIS Registration (CRS) Timeline

  • 15 to 20 working days for the following lead model (Inclusion); 20 to 25 working days for the first lead model.
  • 20 to 25 working days for the first lead model.

The BIS official in charge will inform you if the documentation and conformance aren't sufficient or if there's another issue, and if the issue isn't resolved within 30 days, they'll send you a rejection letter.

BIS Registration is legitimate:

After the initial two years, a BIS Registration may be renewed. The license will become invalid 90 days after its expiration date if the license holder does not submit a renewal application and payment (including a late fee). The two-year license is valid.

Testing a return policy example

The tested samples must be returned three months following the release of the test report. According to its rules, the lab has the ability to discard the sample after three months and will no longer consider claims after that.

Additionally, the sample could sustain whole or partial damage while being analyzed. Any claims regarding this will not be taken into consideration by Lab or ERCS Private Limited.
