The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has notified a new Quality Control Order (QCO) covering plywood and wooden flush door shutters (solid core type with plywood face panels), effective 29 August 2023. Issued in the public interest and in consultation with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), this order makes ISI Mark certification mandatory for all covered products sold in India. Manufacturers, importers, and traders dealing in this product category must act promptly to ensure compliance.
Plywood and Wooden Flush Door Shutters QCO key points:
- For large-scale units, it shall come into force with effect from 6 months from the date of notification.
- This QCO shall not apply to such goods or articles meant for export.
- BIS shall certify and enforce the concerned manufacturers to use the Standard Mark as the ISI Mark logo on all the products covered under the same QCO.
- According to BIS Guideline, any person who contravenes the provisions of this QCO shall be punishable under the provisions of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (up to Rs. 5 Lakh, imprisonment for up to 1 year, or 5 times annual turnover).
